Summer Camp Essentials: What to Pack for Summer Camp Guide

June 1, 2021 - written by Camp Craft Spree Team

After sitting indoors for months, it’s finally the time to think about Summer Camps and outdoor times!
Believe it or not — summer camp is right around the corner!
Are you getting antsy about what to pack?
Fear no more! Camp Craft Spree Team has compiled a handy summer camp packing checklist so you can breathe easy!

Summer Camp Essentials

Day campers should bring the following:

Reusable water bottle

Hydration is important! Be sure to check and make sure your kid has a water bottle packed.
Pack a refillable water bottle, or a couple bottled waters, so your kid doesn't get dehydrated. Freeze one of the bottles the night before. As the ice melts throughout the day, your child will have a cold and refreshing drink.

Comfortable clothing and shoes (preferably running shoes)

No matter which of the summer camp programs your child is attending, comfort is a must. While it goes without saying at a sports camp, it even applies to Craft Spree Sewing and STEM camps. We will be spending a lot of time outdoors, running, playing, doing sports!

Extra Change of clothes

Weather is a funny thing, right? One minute it’s sunny and another it gets chilly! Make sure you pack an extra long sleeve shirt with your child and an extra set of clothes, just in case.

Bathing suit, towel and sunscreen

Splashpad! Water games! You'd hate for your son or daughter to not be able to partake!

Flip flops

Separate from "comfortable shoes" for a reason—flip flops serve a different purpose, should be worn at the splashpad for sure.

Part of the reason things aren't packed, even when remembered and thought about is because it's believed that kids just won't have the capacity for all of these things all of the time. But, a backpack provides the option for easy access of the packed goodies and transportation.

Lunches/Pizza Friday

Please pack a lunch & 2 snacks each day except on Fridays where there is a pizza & juice lunch included! Woohoo!

Snack Ideas

You'll want to avoid packing a lot of candy and sweets. Too many of these can make your child sick when outdoors in the heat. Instead, pack their lunchbox with snacks that are both tasty and nutritious:

  • Easy-to-pack fruits (such as apples, oranges, and grapes)

  • Granola bars or cereal bars

  • Popcorn

  • Pretzels

  • Raisins

  • Sliced cheese, string cheese, or mini cheeses

  • Veggies and dip, carrots with hummus

Pack your camper's food in a thermal tote bag with at least two ice packs. You can get ice packs in the camping or outdoor section of any local discount store.

What you may want to leave at home:

While campers are not required to bring any electronic devices to camp, we know older children might want to bring along a smartphone or gaming console. We recommend keeping these items at home, so campers can get the most out of camp!

In fact, studies from the American Camp Association have shown that students who leave their electronic devices at home gain a bigger sense of independence, and students often gain new life skills.

Our Craft Spree Camp Staff will notify parents of any emergencies—nothing is more important than our students' safety and comfort.

We hope this helps! See you on the other side!
